Pattern Tour E30-744, 1930's Dinner Gown & Cape

This 5-piece pattern is for the dinner gown with incorporated cape via buttonhole at the front of the bust. Strongly resembles the velvet gown Cate Blanchett wears in the latest Noir film, Nightmare Alley! Fullness is provided for the bust with double darts and cinching at the center front where the cape threads through.  A line of elastic is sewn into the upper edge of the un-structured bodice back to hold it in place.  The cape may be worn on or off the shoulders and a godet adds fullness to the otherwise close-fitting bias skirt. The handkerchief hem of the skirt is actually an effect via a drape panel that is sewn in at the geometric dropped waistline. The hip is closely fit with a pin-tucked girdle across front and back.
